SAMPLE TRIP PLAN
This itinerary is an example. Weather, tides, wildlife, and partner availability shape every trip, and the order and content of days may shift to make the most of conditions on the water. Each group's activity level also changes week to week.
Day 1
Arrive in Sitka and transfer to your lodging downtown. A walk through town to get your bearings, then an afternoon rainforest walk with the guides.
Day 2
A full day on the water: whale watching in Sitka Sound, a beach landing, tide pooling, and a picnic. In the afternoon, a drive up to a mountain summit for orientation and photographs, weather permitting.
Day 3
A morning rainforest hike, then boat-based bear viewing with lunch aboard. In the afternoon, an old-growth conservation walk with a local conservation group, finishing at a local brewery.
Day 4
The big exploration day. We run the boat around Baranof Island to reach marine life we do not see near town, towering waterfalls, and bear habitat far from any other boat. Lunch in a remote bay, and the chance for a remote hike.
Day 5
Your morning, your choice: a fishing charter, a floatplane flight, more wildlife watching, time in town, or a make-up day if weather cost us something earlier. In the afternoon, a screening of Sitka's Hidden Wonders and a behind-the-scenes tour with the local field research and aquarium team.
Day 6
By boat to the seabird refuge at St. Lazaria, then a landing and hike on the volcano island of Kruzof. Back to town for a farewell beach fire dinner, included.
Day 7
Travel home. Your hardbound photo book follows about six weeks later.

Booking a Wonder Journey
Reserving Your Dates
A 30% deposit secures your dates. The balance is due 90 days before departure. Trips run one group at a time, June to early September, and the calendar for the following summer fills between October and March.
Cancellation and Weather
The deposit is non-refundable. If you cancel more than 90 days out, it may be applied to a future trip at our discretion. If weather is unsafe and a day cannot run, that day is refunded or applied to a later trip. We strongly recommend travel insurance.
Lodging and Travel
We arrange downtown lodging at cost and point you to the right flights. Alaska Airlines flies to Sitka daily, nonstop from Seattle in about two hours. Travel to Sitka, breakfasts and dinners, alcohol, gear, gratuities, and insurance are not included.
Fitness and Activity
Every trip involves stepping on and off a boat and walking on and off the bow at beach landings. No hiking is required, but highly recommended based on ability. We shape each day to the group.
Group Size
We can accomodate between 1 and 6 guests on these trips. The price covers the whole group, not each person, and add-on days, float plane flights, kayaking, snorkeling, and fishing are available by request.
