Sitka’s Hidden Wonders is a 40 minute wildlife film that reveals the unseen life of Alaska’s wild coast. Filmed entirely in and around Sitka, it follows the hidden connections that shape this place—from glowing plankton drifting beneath the surface to whales, bears, and puffins that define the edge of the Pacific.

Created by award winning wildlife filmmaker Ben Hamilton through years of collaboration with local scientists, divers, and storytellers, the film captures the intricate web that sustains life here. Each scene invites you to slow down and see the landscape differently, to feel the rhythms that link sea and forest, tide and sky.

Now screening exclusively in downtown Sitka, this award winning film has become one of the top things to do in town. It offers travelers and locals alike a rare chance to experience Alaska’s natural world in any weather, right in the heart of Sitka. Our film shows at two downtown Sitka locations:

1. Coliseum Theater on Lincoln Street (Saturday-Sundays)

2. Harrigan Centennial Hall (Monday-Thursday).

Both are within a short walk from cruise shuttles and the center of town. Please check showtimes when you book to confirm which venue is operating on your visit day.

What to Wear

Dress warmly in layers suitable for changing weather. A waterproof outer layer and comfortable, non-slip shoes are recommended. Cameras are not provided.

Restrictions

Recommended for ages 10 and up. Guests should be comfortable boarding a small vessel and navigating uneven terrain. The experience is not suitable for guests with severe mobility limitations or balance concerns. Pregnant guests or those with recent injuries should consult a physician before joining. All participants are required to sign a standard waiver before departure.

What is the film about?

Sitka's Hidden Wonders is a natural history documentary film that showcases the breathtaking beauty and diverse wildlife of Sitka, Alaska. It offers a unique opportunity to learn about the local ecosystem and the fascinating creatures that call it home. Unlike so many films about Alaska that use material from across the state, Sitka's Hidden Wonders was filmed right here in Sitka and shares some of the most unique wildlife events that are only found here.

Where is the film playing?

The film is playing exclusively at the Coliseum Theatre in downtown Sitka, Alaska, located on Lincoln Street less than a 3 minute walk from the Centennial Hall where buses pick up and drop off.

Is there parking available?

Yes, there is street parking available on days when the street is not closed downtown for pedestrian traffic. On days when the street is closed it's best to park at Crescent Harbor or Centennial Hall and walk.

How often does the film show?

Monday - Thursday: 9am, 10am, 11am, 12pm, 1pm, 2pm, 3pm

Sundays: 9am, 10am, 11am, 12pm, 1pm.

How can I buy tickets?

You can easily purchase tickets for the wildlife film online through our website or in person at our ticket booth. Simply select your preferred date and time, and complete the secure checkout process and you will receive your tickets by email.

Does the film support conservation?

We are proud to donate a percentage of our profits to support two vitally important local organizations: the Sitka Sound Science Center, who are at the forefront of critical research to understand this place, and the Sitka Conservation Society, who work to protect it.

Do you offer any discounted ticket types?

We offer reduced ticket pricing for children under 18, seniors above 65, and locals.

Can I bring in outside food or drinks?

The Coliseum Theatre does not allow guests to bring in food or drinks, but concessions are available for purchase inside and include drinks, popcorn, candy, and more.

Are children allowed?

Children and adults of all ages are welcome to attend the film. It's a family-friendly experience that can be enjoyed by everyone.
